  1. A Varied & balanced diet is the best way to get all the nutrients & energy for a healthy pregnancy
  2. Stay hydrated with eight to 12 glasses of water a day.
  3. You need to limit your caffeine intake. Replace with healthier options.
  4. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to eat for two. Most doctors recommend 300 extra calories a day only in the second and third trimesters.
  5. Remember that you’re eating for a baby, not another full-size adult.
  6. Fresh fruits and vegetables.
  7. Try to get natural sources of folic acid from your diet. Foods rich in folic acid include lentils (dal), spinach (palak), and walnuts (akrot).
  8. Healthy carbohydrates such as potatoes, and wholegrain varieties of rice, bread, and pasta.
  9. Foods rich in protein, such as meat, chicken, eggs, pulses, lentils, and soya nuggets.
  10. Dairy foods, such as milk, fresh cheese (paneer), curd, or yogurt.
